7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (November 1)

    Date:
    Fri, 01 Nov 2024 15:01:44 +0000

    Description:
From the return of hit Netflix shows to a number of new movies, here's what's worth streaming this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

The first weekend of November has arrived, and there's a pleasing mix of genre-specific new movies and shows to enjoy on the world's best streaming services .

The return of The Diplomat on Netflix notwithstanding, this week's offerings aren't as headline-grabbing as they have been recently. Nonetheless, that means you'll have to leave your streaming comfort zone and sample something entirely new, which is always worth doing if you ask us.

Anyway, these are the seven biggest new TV series and films worth watching before the working week starts up again. Enjoy! The Diplomat season 2 (Netflix)

The Diplomat is one of the best Netflix shows around and its second chapter promises to be a gripping affair, with season 2's teaser trailer clearing up an important question about the show's return.

Following last season's explosive finale, Keri Russell's Kate Wyler discovers that spoilers! the deadly explosion, which nearly killed her almost ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), was an inside job directed by the
British government. Kate goes on a mission to uncover the truth while trying to balance her fractured marriage, a complicated relationship with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).

The Diplomat is another addition to Netflix's top-tier selection of
political thrillers. With my personal favorite, The Night Agent season 2 ,
not returning until 2025, The Diplomat season 2's high-octane action and heart-pounding thrills is just what I need this weekend.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch The Diplomat season 2 on Netflix Wizards Beyond Waverley Place (Disney Plus)

What better way to keep the Halloween Week thrills going this weekend then to sit back with a returning Disney Channel Show filled with wizards and magic? The new fantasy series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has nine episodes available to stream on Disney Plus and it looks like perfect viewing for the entire family.

A sequel to the popular teen sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place from the late 2000s, it sees David Henrie and Selena Gomez reprise their roles as siblings Justin and Alex Russo, who are now grown ups trying to lead a 'mortal' life. Well, that's until Alex brings home Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), who's in
    need of some magical help.

Will Justin be able to remember his magical training? Can he mentor the young wizard-in-training Billie while also keeping the future of the 'Wizard World' safe? There's a 'magical' button below that'll take you to Disney Plus to
find out, so click it and see if it can conjure up a place on our best Disney Plus shows list.

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Wizards Beyond Waverley Place on Disney Plus Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour (Netflix)

This one's for all the fans that missed out on getting tickets to the ongoing concert tour of pop's brightest new star: Olivia Rodrigo. When news first dropped that she was getting a larger-than-life Netflix spectacle similar to what we've seen with Taylor Swift and Beyonc, TechRadar's Rowan Davies couldn't help but see it as another reminder of failing to score tickets to one of this years biggest tours .

Luckily, we can all now get a piece of the action from the sold out August 21 show in the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, as Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour is available to stream. Given its blinding success on the road, I'm going to go out on a whim and say that this is going to get a high enough rating from critics and, whisper it quietly, even qualify for our best Netflix movies guide (check back soon).

Want to keep the party going after watching this one? I recommend these five favorite music movies with over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes to stream next.

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Olivia Rodrigo: Guts
World Tour on Netflix Music by John Williams (Disney Plus)

No matter whether you're a film fanatic or more of a casual moviegoer, you'll have watched a movie whose music has been scored by the incomparable John Williams. Indeed, the legendary composer has written iconic soundtracks for beloved franchises including Star Wars and Indiana Jones, as well as standalone flicks like Jaws , E.T , Schindler's List , Superman: The Movie , JFK ... the list goes on and on.

As a big fan of Williams' famous back catalog, then, this documentary celebrating the adored musician's life and body of work is right up my alley. Featuring many of his most well-known pieces of music, as well as interviews with his closest collaborators (Steven Spielberg among them), industry
titans, and other famous faces who've been touched by his artistry, Music By John Williams looks like the kind of Disney Plus docufilm that'll confirm my adoration for the man behind some of the movie industry's most recognizable film scores.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Music By John Williams on Disney Plus Paris Has Fallen (Prime Video)

If one political thriller wasn't enough for you this week, Paris Has Fallen
on Prime Video is also worth a gander. Gerard Butler introduced us to the Has Fallen blockbuster franchise in 2013 and now he's taken a back step as an executive producer for this spin-off series set in the French capital.

Paris Has Fallen follows French security officer Vincent Taleb (Tewfik Jallab) and British MI6 operative Zara Taylor (Ritu Arya), who join forces when a terrorist group attack a high-profile embassy reception, with the French Minister of Defence as their target. However, when things take a dark turn, Vincent and Zara soon discover that the plan goes far beyond than what they had imagined. Not only will I be watching Paris has Fallen to see if Butler makes a cameo as Secret Service agent Mike Banning from the original movies, but also to witness Arya as a hotshot super spy as she's brilliant in The Umbrella Academy . I'm not sure, though, if it'll have enough about it to join our best Prime Video shows list.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Paris Has Fallen on Prime Video Janet Planet (Max)

Whether its my favorite movie of the year in I Saw the TV Glow, or other iconic modern horrors like Hereditary or Midsommar ., Max is home to many big A24 hits in the US. But, despite the fact they've made some of the best
horror movies , A24 is certainly not limited to one genre. The production company is just as good at dramas and Janet Planet is among them.

The directorial debut for Annie Baker, the filmmaker has already made quite
an impression with this coming-of-age drama about an 11-year-old girl called Lacy and her relationship with her mother Janet. These two powerful lead performances make it worthy of a recommendation, and the slower pace does not take away from its quality. If anything, it elevates it. Don't be shocked if it winds up on our best Max movies list.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Janet Planet on Max You
Would Do It, Too (Apple TV Plus)

I've devoured many of the best Apple TV Plus shows by this point, but Apple's streamer continues to impress me with its unique, fresh offerings. Indeed, while I've never been more impatient for a series to return than Severance season 2 , I increasingly find myself spending a lot of time watching other
    TV Originals on the platform.

The arrival of You Would Do It Too, a gripping new eight-part series that
sees a bus hijacked by three robbers who end up dead before they can get
away, prompting detectives and former lovers to try to uncover the truth behind the six witnesses' inconsistent timelines, may be next on my to-do list. Since they can't interrogate the robbers themselves, they have to rely entirely on eyewitness statements. So, what's the truth and will we ever find out? I can't wait to find out.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch You Would Do It, Too on
    Apple TV Plus

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (November 15)

    Date:
    Fri, 15 Nov 2024 15:01:00 +0000

    Description:
From the arrival of a new Marvel movie, to the return of hit shows, there's lot to look forward to this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

I'm going to be honest, dear reader. There's only one thing I'll be streaming this weekend and, surprise surprise, it'll be the second part of Arcane season 2 . Yes, as I state in my Arcane season 2 review , I've already
watched every episode multiple times, but can't a guy stream them again?

If, for some utterly bizarre reason, you won't be tuning into Arcane 's next three episodes over the next 48 hours, there are other new movies and shows that'll surely grab your attention. Indeed, from the official streaming debut of a new Marvel movie to the return of hit series, you'll find something
worth watching on the world's best streaming services . Have fun! Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Deadpool and Wolverine (Disney Plus)

The only Marvel movie of 2024 has finally made its Disney Plus debut and
it's about darn time. Admittedly, I'm not surprised it's taken so long for Deadpool and Wolverine to join the streamer's movie library indeed, when you're raking in money at the global box office, you'll stick around on the big screen for much longer than anticipated.

Nevertheless, I've been itching to see it again since late July, so I'm delighted that the Marvel Phase 5 film is now available to stream. It's one
of the best Marvel movies to land in theaters as part of the Marvel
Multiverse Saga, after all, so one of November's new Disney Plus movies has been high on my re-watch list for a while.

Before you watch The Merc With a Mouth and his adamantium-clawed bestie
embark on a multiversal adventure, though, read my Deadpool and Wolverine review for a taste of what's to come. Once you've streamed it, be sure to
read my Deadpool and Wolverine ending explained piece, plus my Deadpool and Wolverine cameos guide, for even more wondrous coverage.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Deadpool and Wolverine on Disney Plus Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 (Netflix)

Cobra Kai season 6 has decided to end on a dramatic note. We're used to Netflix dropping seasons in two parts, but this one is getting three so, if you thought season 6 part 2 was the end, you were wrong! The final five episodes arrive in 2025, so we don't have to say goodbye yet.

Personally, I've had an absolute blast with this series and it's been so
great to see a modern day expansion of the iconic Karate Kid lore. Seeing
some familiar faces and some big surprises along the way has been terrific
and I know the ending is going to be bittersweet.

There's a reason this is one of our best Netflix shows . Cobra Kai 's legacy simply cannot be ignored; it's cool, heartfelt, has a banging soundtrack, and we're all on the edge of our seats waiting for that grand finale. I just know it'll go out on a high, even if I will miss hanging out in the dojos. For
now, though, I'll be enjoying this next batch of episodes.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 on Netflix Dune: Prophecy (Max)

Denis Villeneuve's Dune and follow up Dune: Part Two delighted viewers
myself included by treating us all to a big screen epic that dives into the huge lore originally penned by Frank Herbert. There's so much going on in
this world, so it's hardly surprising a prequel series has dropped on Max. They've even made a video game set in the world, so the possibilities are seemingly endless.

The six episode series is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides, following two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces and establish the sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.

It's still too early to say whether or not it'll become one of our best Max shows , but HBO has a knack for smashing out huge hits. Just look at how much critics and general viewers loved The Penguin and you'll know what I'm
talking about. I'm really hoping Dune: Prophecy will be just as good, but
    only time will tell.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Dune: Prophecy on Max (US), Sky/Now TV (UK), and Binge (Australia) Emilia Perez (Netflix)

Directed by Jacques Audiard, Emilia Prez follows cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofa Gascn) who enlists unappreciated lawyer Rita (Zoe Saldaa) to help fake her death so she can have sex-reassignment operations and live a new life under a new name: Emilia Prez. I'm not usually a lover of musicals, but when
I saw the trailer for Emilia Prez , I instantly added one of November's new Netflix movies to my ever-growing watchlist for its audacious song and dance numbers.

Emilia Prez doesn't fit within any conventional genre indeed, it's been described as a musical crime saga, which also serves as an opera and a
comedy. Whatever it is, it's something that both Netflix and I need right
now. With 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's likely to earn a spot on our best Netflix movies list, too.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Emilia Perez on Netflix Cross
    (Prime Video)

Prime Video loves a good ol' book adaptation with the likes of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and Alex Rider. Now, there's another one to add to the list in the form of crime drama Cross. Based on James Patterson's book series, albeit a show that tells an original story not depicted in the novels, Aldis Hodge steps into the role of talented homicide detective and forensic psychologist Alex Cross. As he and his partner John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa) track down a serial killer, his personal struggles threaten to ruin his career and life.

I can always count on a high-octane cop thriller to keep me entertained. And, with Cross renewed for a second season before this chapter even aired, that's a hopeful sign it might be one of the best Prime Video shows . Alex Cross may have a new fan on his hands and that fan is most certainly me.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Cross season 1 on Prime Video Silo season 2 (Apple TV Plus)

It's time! The hit Apple TV Plus show Silo season 2 has finally re-emerged from its underground bunker to bring you the first episode of its new 10-episode installment. For fans of one of the best Apple TV Plus shows ,
it's been a long wait to get here. Following the show's renewal in June 2023, production had been forced to pause due to the Hollywood writers' strikes, which prompted Rebecca Ferguson to reveal (exclusively to TechRadar) that season 2 was a long way from makings its debut .

That wait is now over, which means fans can finally find out what happens
next to Ferguson's character Juliette Nichols after season 1's shocking cliffhanger ending. Based on Hugh Howey's dystopian book series, the BAFTA award-winning Apple show is filled with "big mysteries" that are only set to get bigger in the next chapter, according to showrunner Graham Yost . If you want to keep the sci-fi thrills going this weekend, then here are four more highly-rated shows on Apple TV Plus .

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Silo season 2 on Apple TV Plus Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson (Netflix)

We don't normally recommend sporting tournaments or live events, but when one of the greatest heavyweight champion world fighters is stepping into the ring with a YouTuber for a completely free event on Netflix, it's hard to ignore. After all, DAZN is the heavy hitter when it comes to boxing streaming rights
here's all you need to know about boxing on DAZN if you're a fan of the
sport so it's surprising that this is being aired for free (as long as
    you're a Netflix user, anyway).

Well, not that surprising when you see how much of a spectacle this fight is brewing online Mike Tyson is known as an entertainer right? Critics are of course up in arms about what this fight means for the sport, saying it promotes profiteering and damages the legacy of the sport. Whichever corner
of the ring you sit in, it's going ahead and you'll be able to tune in at 7:00pm ET tonight (November 15). Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch Ridley Scott's latest sequel Gladiator II .

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson
    on Netflix

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (November 22)

    Date:
    Fri, 22 Nov 2024 15:01:00 +0000

    Description:
There are plenty of new movies and TV shows to choose from this weekend, including the end of an award-winning Netflix series.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

The penultimate weekend of November 2024 is upon us and, while the US' Thanksgiving celebrations are still a week away, the world's best streaming services have served up a delicious feast of new movies and shows to enjoy over the next few days.

There have been so many new films and series released this week that my colleagues and I have struggled to whittle down this list to just seven entries, too. Indeed, whether it's HBO's new crime thriller Get Millie Black or two other n ew Netflix movies in Joy and The Piano Lesso n, we just couldn't fit everything into this week's streaming recommendations guide.

But enough chatter! Grab some snacks and settle in for a session or three in front of the TV after a long week. Enjoy! - Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Arcane season 2 act 3 (Netflix)

Have you got your tissues handy? You'll need them, because the final three episodes of Arcane season 2 will likely break our hearts. With Arcane 's second season bringing the award-winning animated series to a close , too, there'll be no more chapters to enjoy after they're released on Netflix tomorrow (Saturday, November 23).

Nevertheless, even though I know it'll be a bittersweet end to one of the
best Netflix shows ever made, I plan to enjoy Arcane 's last hurrah as much
as I can. I haven't watched act 3 ahead of time, either, so I'll be tuning in with the rest of you to see every jaw-dropping moment as they play out.
Before you stream them, read my Arcane season 2 act 2 ending explained piece to remind yourself what happened last time out. Then, take a deep breath you'll need to! and hit play. See you on the other side, everyone.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Arcane season 2 act 3 on Netflix Blitz (Apple TV Plus)

A highly-anticipated historical war drama by Steve McQueen, Blitz is one of four new Apple TV Plus movies and shows we're excited to stream in November. Set in London during World War II, nine-year-old George (Elliot Heffernan) is evacuated to the countryside by his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) to escape the Blitz. Determined to return to his mother, George embarks on a perilous journey back home as Rita goes on a desperate search to find him.

There's no doubt that Apple TV Plus is home to an array of high quality content I mean, it was crowned TechRadar's Streaming Service of the Year for this very reason. Some of its best Apple TV Plus movies have attracted an array of A-list actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Tom Hanks. Now, Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan is set to put on another astounding performance in the period drama Blitz . I'm getting the tissues ready!

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Blitz on Apple TV Plus Spellbound (Netflix)

One of November's many new Netflix movies Spellbound follows Princess Ellian (Rachel Zegler), the young princes of Lumbria who goes on a quest to save her family after a spell transforms her parents into monsters.

Ahead of my press screening (keep an eye out for my full review this
weekend), I was expecting it to be your average children's animated fantasy. However, I left feeling surprisingly emotional at the film's moving message that many families will appreciate. Indeed, Spellbound, which may have enough about it to join our best Netflix movies, is a heart-warming and magical adventure set in a vivid world that's perfect for all the family. Oh, and there's some catchy songs to get you dancing!

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Spellbound on Netflix Cruel Intentions (Prime Video)

When it comes to '90s teen dramas, Cruel Intentions was one of the biggest movies of the time. Its story of bored, scheming step siblings (Sarah
Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe) at an elite school who try to seduce a
new student (Reese Witherspoon) as part of a twisted bet is not something you'd expect to be remade into a TV show nowadays, but Amazon has done
    exactly that.

Not many were thrilled by the idea of a Cruel Intentions TV remake , so it's probably not surprising that the new series has a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 22% since it landed on Prime Video . While it won't make the cut for one of the best Prime Video shows , the original movie is available for free on Amazon Freevee in the US, plus Prime Video in the UK and Australia. It might not have a great critical rating either, but it does have an incredible soundtrack.

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Cruel Intentions on Prime Video The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 (Max)

If you're looking for more elite student college drama, then season 3 of The Sex Lives of College Girls , which was part of everything new on Max in November .article, is out now, too. The first episode of the returning comedy series debuted on Max on Thursday (November 21), and new episodes will air weekly from then on until January 23, 2025.

For those unfamiliar with its premise: this teen series follows roommates Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott), Bela (Amrit Kaur), Kimberly (Pauline
Chalamet) and Leighton (Rene Rapp) studying at the fictional Essex College. It's been a hit with audiences and critics alike, and has 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best Max shows .

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 on Max (US only) Making Manson (Peacock)

There's always a great deal of intrigue when a new true crime documentary airs. Recently, Netflix has led the charge with movies like Woman of the Hour and the latest in Ryan Murphy's Monsters franchise . If you're in the mood
for something similar, then, Peacock is bringing us up close and personal to one of America's most notorious killers: Charles Manson.

This docuseries is described as "offering unfiltered insights into America's most notorious killer, Charles Manson. Through 20 years' worth of never-before-aired conversations, those closest to the case have their views challenged". So, it should be a very interesting watch, featuring clips of
the man himself and those who knew him. If you prefer your crime fictionalized, though, I highly recommend Peacock's horror series Hysteria! .

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Making Manson on Peacock (US only) Alien: Romulus (Hulu)

Alien: Romulus has made its official streaming debut! Well, on Hulu, anyway if you were too scared to see it in the theater, then, not to worry, because in your living room no one can hear you scream from behind your cushion. As I suggested, it's bittersweet news, though, because the latest Alien film doesn't have a Disney Plus release date yet . Fans in other territories will have to wait a little longer for an at-home release, then. But hey, at least the sci-fi horror franchise's first TV show, aka Alien: Earth , is set to simultaneously land on Hulu and Disney Plus in mid-2025 .

Those of you in the US are in for a treat, however, as Alien: Romulus is one of my favorite entries in the franchise. In my opinion, it's just as good as Aliens , and people on Rotten Tomatoes are inclined to agree, given its glowing 80% rating.

If you are in the mood for a good scare and you're not in the US, you can check out 7 sci-fi horror movies on Hulu, Prime Video, and more for some eerie, out of this world entertainment.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Alien: Romulus on Hulu (US only)

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (November 29)

    Date:
    Fri, 29 Nov 2024 15:00:10 +0000

    Description:
From new sports dramas to more festive treats, these are the films and TV series worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! Well, to our US readers, anyway. I hope you're enjoying plenty of food, downtime with family or friends (or by yourself if you need some peace and quiet!), and this year's Black Friday sales .

If you're feeling as stuffed as a Thanksgiving turkey from all of the food you've eaten, I suspect you'll be lounging about in front of the TV at some point, too. Luckily, no matter whether you live stateside or elsewhere, there's plenty to watch on the world's best streaming services this weekend. So, read on to see what's worth catching before the new working week starts.
    - Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Senna (Netflix)

One of the greatest, if not the greatest, F1 driver to ever live, the story
of Ayrton Senna is one filled with record-breaking feats, showcases optimism and fearlessness in the face of adversity, and ends in tragedy. It's high time, then, that the three-time world champion's life was retold once more in epic and tear-jerking fashion.

Step forward Senna , a six-part Netflix series that dramatizes the
Brazilian's life and career right up to his untimely death at the age of 34. At the time of writing, I don't know if Senna will manage to race onto our best Netflix shows list. If it recaptures the magic of the Sao Paulo-born driver's legacy and does as good a job of portraying him as Asif Kapdia's identically titled 2010 docufilm does, though, I'm confident it'll secure
pole position in the drama section of that Netflix-based guide.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Senna on Netflix Beatles '64 (Disney Plus)

Here comes another Beatles documentary! And it's just in time for the weekend too, making it prime viewing for Disney Plus subscribers. David Tedeschi's Beatles '64 is set to take us back to the quartet's very first trip to the
US, giving us an intimate backstage look at how the band captivated a whole nation and started one of the biggest fan frenzies in history: Beatlemania.

Using restored in 4K footage captured by US filmmaking brothers David and Albert Maysles alongside archival interviews, this new docufilm offers a new way to get a sense of the electricity that must have been in the air when
they came together during the Liverpool band's first performances in the country. I have a feeling this is going straight into our best Disney Plus movies guide.

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch Beatles '64 on Disney
    Plus The Agency (Paramount Plus)

I'm not sure what I'm going to do once The Day of the Jackal finishes, but it looks like I've found a perfect alternative with new Paramount Plus spy drama The Agency, an American remake of the French series Le Bureau des Legendes.

Michael Fassbender stars as Martian, a covert CIA agent ordered to leave his undercover life and return to London Station. When he reunites with his lover that he left behind, their romance is thrown into a dangerous game of
intrigue and espionage that complicates his career, his real identity, and
    his mission.

On paper, The Agency sounds like it could be one of the best Paramount Plus shows going with its star-studded cast of Jodie Turner-Smith, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston. But one thing's for sure is that I can't wait to watch Fassbender in this action-packed odyssey.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch The Agency on Paramount Plus The Madness (Netflix)

What would you do if you found yourself framed for murder? Well, The Madness poses this very unnerving question when it arrives on Netflix this weekend.
In this tense new thriller, Emmy winning actor Colman Domingo plays a media pundit who is accused of murdering someone after he stumbles across a dead body, and he must reunite with his estranged family amid all the chaos.

Thriller is one of my favorite genres for a reason, because it can
incorporate so many gripping stories and themes. I cant wait to watch The Madness unfold this weekend and follow the story of a man whose life has been turned upside down seemingly overnight. This one looks like the kind of show Ill be eager to discuss with others, and I cant wait to be glued to my TV.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch The Madness on Netflix Sweethearts (Max)

I do love a rom-com, but a good one can sometimes be hard to find. However, one of November's final new Max movies Sweethearts looks like the charming teen comedy I've been waiting for all this time. Sweethearts is about two
best friends and college freshmen, Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) and Ben (Nico Hiraga), who make a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts over Thanksgiving break. This soon leads to a chaotic night out that puts their friendship to the test.

Sweethearts looks like it has everything I could want from a rom-com with drama, hijinks, repressed feelings, and even a possible friends-to-lovers trope. Yep, this definitely has potential to become one of the best Max movies.

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Sweethearts on Max It's In the Game (Prime Video)

A videogame can take on a life of its own outside of the display screen you see it in and that's exactly what happened to the EA sports series Madden
NFL. But did you know that the biggest videogame series of all time almost didn't get made?

In the new Prime Video four-part docuseries It's In the Game, EA Sports
studio will tell all about the 8-bit game's pixelated origins and how it came to be its touchdown of the century. What better time to release what could be the next best Prime Video show about Coach Madden, then during Thanksgiving weekend (for US readers, anyway)!

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch It's In The Game on Prime Video Our Little Secret (Netflix)

Its the end of November, so Christmas movies are flooding the best streaming services. Over on Netflix theres plenty to dive into, and I have a little secret of my own because I absolutely loved Lindsay Lohans festive movie from last year, Falling for Christmas , so Im excited to see her back again! Come on, Christmas movies should be silly and fun, thats what I argued when I
spoke about how Red One isn't perfect but proves we need more action-packed Christmas movies . Im all for movies that arent afraid to be a bit
    ridiculous, honestly.

In Our Little Secret , Lohan plays a woman who is spending her first
Christmas with her boyfriend's family but discovers her ex is also part of
the holiday festivities, so she decides to hide their romantic history. The always brilliant Kristin Chenoweth stars, too, and yeah, Im ready for some silly festive fun with one of November's final new Netflix movies . Lets go!

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (December 6)

    Date:
    Fri, 06 Dec 2024 15:00:00 +0000

    Description:
From new festive delights to the latest Star Wars show, here's what's worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

The Christmas countdown is underway, with the best streaming services serving up a variety of festive films and not-so-seasonal favorites. From this year's best new movies finally getting a streaming release to the premieres of new
DC Cinematic Universe ( DCU ) and Star Wars series, there's a real mix of fresh content to get through this weekend.

The star power in this week's lineup is also immense: You'll be able to catch Margo Martindale as a maple syrup farmer, Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum faking a moon landing, Kiera Knightly kicking ass, a haunted Winona Ryder, Sabrina Carpenter being, well, Sabrina Carpenter, David Harbour as Frankenstein, and Nick Frost as a rusty droid. Enjoy! Star Wars: Skeleton
    Crew (Disney Plus)

It's high time that Star Wars started dipping its toes in other genres. And, after the critical success that spy thriller series Andor was met with in
mid- to late 2022, a pirate-themed galactic misadventure in the shape of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has arrived to expand the iconic sci-fi franchise's horizons.

So, what's it about? Essentially, four kids who get lost in space who, with the aid of Jude Law's enigmatic Jod Na Nawood and a cranky, decrepit droid named SM-33 (voiced by Nick Frost), try to get back home. Think of it as ' Goonies in space' and you'll get the gist. Its first two episodes are already available on Disney Plus , but read my Star Wars: Skeleton Crew review first to find out why it's not only a show worth *ahem* treasuring, but also one that's destined to join our best Disney Plus shows guide.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus Creature Commandos (Max)

The DC Extended Universe ( DCEU ) is dead, long live the DCU! Okay, the acronyms are almost identical, but James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DCU couldn't be more different to its now-defunct and frustratingly inconsistent shared universe.

A prime example of how different the DCU will be is clear in DCU Chapter One 's first project: Creature Commandos . An R-rated animated series, it follows Task Force M, a group of supervillains and anti-heroes charged with
protecting Princess Ilana of Pokolistan from Circe, a powerful sorceress and long-time Wonder Woman adversary.

Check out my spoiler-free review of Creature Commandos to learn more about it ahead of tuning in to see its two-episode premiere on Max . In short: it's good enough that it'll squeak onto our best Max shows list, but I hope future DCU projects like Gunn's Superman movie will be even better.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Watch Creature Commandos on Max A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter (Netflix)

Which artists were at the top of your Spotify Wrapped 2024 this year? I've been hearing a real eclectic mix in the office, but Sabrina Carpenter has
been a clear favorite. Indeed, when TechRadar's Rowan Davis heard about Netflix's holiday music special with the pop princess , he couldn't contain his excitement.

Expect to tune into Carpenter performing songs from her holiday record Fruitcake , then, as well as other Christmas covers , alongside some guests, including comedians and other artists tonight at 6pm ET / 11pm GMT on
Netflix. Now, please please please grab an espresso, as you won't want to sleep through this.

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter on Netflix Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Max)

The anticipated follow-up to 1980s classic horror comedy Beetlejuice is a
real treat. With a star-studded cast including the return of original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara, plus newcomers Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe, Beetlejuice 2 's ensemble easily
made it one of my most anticipated new Max movies for December.

Set more than 30 years after the first movie, it follows Lydia Deetz who's, unsurprisingly, now a woman and one struggling to keep her family together
in the wake of a loss as Beetlejuice returns to haunt her. It doesnt quite reach the heights of the first flick, but its still a very good watch and worthy of a spot on the best Max movies list.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on Max Black Doves (Netflix)

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Not because it's the festive
season, but because I get to see Keira Knightley as a butt-kicking secret agent in new Netflix spy thriller Black Doves.

In it , Knightley is worlds away from her period drama era as she takes on
the role of Helen Webb, a fearless spy who goes on a quest for revenge when her secret lover is murdered by the dangerous London underworld. Joining
Helen on her mission is old assassin friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) after he's called in to protect her.

I knew it was going to be one of the best Netflix shows of 2024 after I watched the action-packed Black Doves trailer , and now I can't wait for the comedic spy duo to bring bullets, bloodshed, and British wit during the holidays. Oh, and it's already been renewed for a second season, so Merry Kill-mas!

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Black Doves on Netflix Fly Me to
    the Moon (Apple TV Plus)

Some of the best Apple TV Plus movies often attract Hollywood A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Jennifer Lawrence. Now, Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum are part of that famous list with the rom-com Fly Me to
the Moon. Set against the backdrop of NASA's historic Apollo 11 moon landing, marketing specialist Kelly Jones (Johansson) and launch director Cole Davis (Tatum) are tasked with creating a fake moon landing in case the mission fails.

I love a good rom-com and Fly Me to the Moon looks like an old-fashioned Apple-produced romance I can get behind, especially if it involves Johansson and Tatum. Is the sci-fi TV show utopia that is Apple TV Plus about to
produce a top-tier romantic comedy? Judging by its respectable 65% Rotten Tomatoes score (it was released in theaters earlier this year, FYI), maybe!

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Fly Me to the Moon on Apple TV Plus The Sticky (Prime Video)

When I first saw the trailer for Prime Video 's The Sticky , I said it looks like Breaking Bad with maple syrup instead of meth . If that isnt enough to sell you, I dont know what will, because this show looks bonkers in the best possible way. The Sticky is actually based on a bizarre real-life crime story called the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, which saw $18.7M worth of maple syrup was stolen in Quebec. In the dramatized version, a syrup farmer turns
to a Bostonian mobster and a French-Canadian security guard for their aid in stealing Quebec's maple syrup surplus.

I cant wait to watch it either, especially with legends like Jamie Lee Curtis and Margo Martindale attached to the cast. If I had things my way, it would already have a spot on our best Prime Video shows list. I just hope it
doesn't come unstuck when more people check it out!

    Description:
The penultimate streaming list of the year has arrived here's what's worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Happy holidays, everyone! At long last, it's time to take a much-needed break from your job and enjoy as much food, drink, good company, and time sat in front of your TV as you can handle.

Where the last of those is concerned, our penultimate weekly 'what to watch this weekend' list of the year is, as always, filled with offerings from the world's best streaming services . From the final new movies of 2024 to the return of popular shows, you'll find something worth watching after sticking your out of office email on for the final time this year. You've earned it, after all. So, put your feet up and enjoy one of the below recommendations! - Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter The Six Triple Eight (Netflix)

2024 has been a good year for war dramas, such as Apple TV Plus projects
Blitz and Masters of the Air . Now, we can add The Six Triple Eight to the list; the last of December's new Netflix movies telling the inspirational
true story of World War II's only Womens Army Corps unit of color, aka the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.

855 women join the war effort to sort though a three-year backlog of mail
that hadnt been delivered to American soldiers far from home. Despite discrimination and war-torn conditions, they sort through 17 million pieces
of mail and bring hope to the front lines. The Six Triple Eight certainly has a unique premise that could make it one of the best Netflix movies (although, it's Rotten Tomatoes critical rating suggests it won't). Nevertheless, I look forward to learning more about a heroic battalion that many of us didn't know existed on Netflix .

Grace Morris, entertainment writer The Secret Lives of Animals (Apple TV Plus)

I love a good nature docuseries and Apple TV Plus has delivered the goods this week with its latest natural history show in the form of The Secret
Lives of Animals , which may become the latest addition to our best Apple TV Plus shows guide.

A 10-part series narrated by Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville, the Apple program aims to enthral and educate us all with never-before-filmed behavior from over 70 different species across all seven continents. Before you watch it, check out our exclusive clip from episode nine that teases a nail-biting fight between two kangaroos . You don't want
    to miss it, I promise.

Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Virgin River season 6 (Netflix)

Virgin River season 6 couldn't have come at a better time and I desperately want an invite to Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan's romantic wedding . As preparations for Mel and Jack's spring wedding get underway, the sixth season will feature new twists and turns, love triangles, wedding drama, and secrets from Mels fathers past, which takes us back to Virgin River in the 1970s.

Virgin River is, in my view, one of the best Netflix shows to watch out of everything new on Netflix this December , so make sure you don't miss the wedding of the year, either!

Grace Morris, entertainment writer Juror #2 (Max)

Clint Eastwood's latest movie is one of the Max trailers I was most excited
to see and, now it's streaming on Max , I can't wait to wrap my eyeballs around it. I love Gran Torino and Juror #2 seems to be another huge success for legendary the actor-turned-director. Unlike Gran Torino , Eastwood stays behind the camera and directs an all-star cast including Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland.

So, what's it about? The legal thriller follows Hoult's journalist character who is called up for jury duty and soon realizes that he may be responsible for the victim's death. Tense legal thrillers are one of my favorite things
to watch and I know this one is going to deliver, the 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating is promising too! Keep an eye out for its addition to our best Max movies list, then.

Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking (Prime Video)

If you're anything like me, then you probably have the obligatory go-to
movies that end up on the screen every Christmas and for me, that list includes the best Harry Potter movies . Well this year, you can mix it up
with this Prime Video gameshow that can only be best described as Harry
Potter meets The Great British Bake-off in Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking.

The six-episode series caused such a stir when it premiered on the Food Network in the US in November that Amazon acquired the streaming rights to show it in the UK and Ireland. Hosted by James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), alongside culinary judges, Carla Hall and Jozef Youssef,
make sure to savor this magical treat while we wait for HBO's Harry Potter reboot .

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Fast Friends (Max)

How well do you know the 90s sitcom Friends ? Do you know the season were
Ross and Rachel were "on a break"? What was the name of Joey's soap opera character? Or how about Phoebe's most famous song? If you can answer all
those questions, then you're going to love Max's new original game show Fast Friends.

Hosted by comedian Whitney Cummings, it invites contestants to relive the
best Friends episodes by challenging teams with trivia, puzzles, and games to determine who will win the title of 'The Ultimate Fast Friends Champion' by how fast they are at completing each task. Once you've finished it, why not see how you can stream every episode of Friends next?

Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Aaron Rodgers: Enigma (Netflix)

This three-part docuseries follows NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he undergoes an intense rehabilitation program after a terrible Achilles injury. You can expect to see plenty of the defining moments from his life and
career, with episode one exploring how his injury derailed his 2023 debut
with the New York Jets. Elsewhere, we'll see how he experimented with with alternative medicine and religion, sparking some controversies and drew further criticisms with his stance on vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Netflix documentary will give Rodgers the chance to show his side of the story, including his reaction to winning Super Bowl XLV. There's a lot to unpack with this series and it certainly sounds like it could make for a
great addition to our best Netflix documentaries guide.

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (January 3)

    Date:
    Fri, 03 Jan 2025 15:00:00 +0000

    Description:
The world's biggest streamers have hit the ground running with some big releases right after New Year's Day.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing festive season, even if you weren't celebrating and/or observing a religious holiday, such as Christmas.

The holidays are in the rear view mirror now but, thankfully, you can deal with the fact that you're back in work by watching one of the following new movies and TV shows on the world's best streaming services . There's plenty
to enjoy, including the long-awaited return of British animated icons in Wallace and Gromit, as well as the first awards ceremony of 2025. So, read on to learn more! Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (Netflix)

20 years on from their last big adventure (yes, Curse of the Were-Rabbi t
came out in 2005!), Wallace and Gromit are back on our screens in their
latest claymation caper Vengeance Most Fowl . This time, the mild-mannered inventor and his favorite pooch are forced to contend with the return of iconic villain Feathers McGraw, who uses Wallace's latest creation a robotic garden gnome called Norbot to try and steal the infamous Blue Diamond once more.

Vengeance Most Fowl makes its international debut on Netflix today (January 3), but it aired on BBC One in the UK on Christmas Day, so I've already seen it and can vouch for how utterly brilliant it is. It's laugh out loud funny, wonderfully animated as usual, and doesn't outstay its welcome with its perfectly paced 80-minute runtime. One best enjoyed with a side of
Wensleydale and some crackers, and one to add to our best Netflix movies list in due course. TP The Rig season 2 (Prime Video)

Supernatural thriller The Rig became a global hit after its January 2023 debut. Now, the Prime Video drama is back for a second season as it continues the story of the Kinloch Bravo crew, who were due to return to the mainland when a mysterious fog descends and supernatural forces take hold.

In The Rig season 2, the survivors (now on a new high-tech rig deep in the Arctic Circle) take on a dangerous mission that sends them across the
perilous frozen sea and towards dark threats hidden below it. While The Rig may not be one of the best Prime Video shows , it tackles important themes about the future of the planet and has lots of gripping action. Also, it
stars Martin Compston, who is brilliant in Line of Duty, so that's one reason why I'll be tuning into this Amazon TV Original. Grace Morris, entertainment writer The Front Room (Max)

With Robert Egger's highly-anticipated Nosferatu remake in theaters, you may be itching for more horrors to sink your teeth into. If that's the case, there's a new A24 movie streaming on Max in The Front Room this weekend that just so happens to be a directorial debut from Robert's twin brothers Max and Sam.

Unlike this month's other Max horror releases, it takes a more psychological thriller tone with its plot centered around a pregnant woman (Brandy Norwood) dealing with an in-law from hell (Kathryn Hunter). Reviews were decidedly mixed upon its theatrical release, so I don't expect it to join our best Max movies list, but many agree that Hunter is a standout and considering the trailer terrified TechRadar's macabre expert Lucy Buglass with its creepy mom-in-law vibes , I'd say you've been warned. Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Missing You (Netflix)

Having binged Netflix's other Harlan Coben TV adaptations, I was excited to learn that the streaming titan would be turning two more Coben novels into series and now his next mystery hit has finally arrived in the form of
Missing You . It follows detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), whose life is turned upside down when she finds her estranged fianc Josh (Ashley
Walters) on a dating app after he vanished 11 years ago. This unexpected reappearance leads Kat to reopen the unsolved mystery surrounding her
father's murder, and see if there's a connection between her fianc's disappearance and her fathers death.

During my interview with Missing You's creator Victoria Asare-Archer , she told me it's the most emotional Harlan Coben adaptation yet, but we can also expect the signature twists and turns of a Coben series that we all love the most. Cobens mystery-thriller novels have been the keystone for a number of the best Netflix shows, so we'll have to wait and see if Missing You also makes it onto the list. GW Lockerbie (Peacock/Sky)

A new limited five-episode series based on the real-life bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie is now available on Peacock in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth tells the story of one of the world's worst terrorist attacks through the perspective of a grieving father Dr Jim Swire (Colin Firth) and mother Jane (Catherine McCormack) as they and their family mount a three-decade long campaign for truth and justice. Part political thriller, part grieving drama, this is a heart-breaking story filled with tragedy and tension. AS The Fall Guy (Prime Video)

Having missed it in theaters last May, The Fall Guy is one of three new Prime Video movies I'm excited to watch in January 2025 . Inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name, it tells the story of stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), who accidentally becomes embroiled in a dangerous criminal conspiracy after the actor he performs stunts for is kidnapped.

While I unfortunately didn't get to experience this crazy popcorn action
movie on the big screen, I'm sure The Fall Guy is still going to be a fun watch and perfect for some at-home weekend entertainment. It's already one of the best Prime Video movies based on its Rotten Tomatoes score, so I can't wait to tuck in to some silly comedy capers. GW The Golden Globes 2025 (Paramount Plus)

We're less than a week into 2025, but the first glitzy awards ceremony of the year is already here. That's right, the 2025 Golden Globes are upon us and you can catch all of the action as it happens live on CBS (US) and Paramount Plus (internationally).

If you missed them before the festive season got underway, you can read up on all of the nominees in our 2025 Golden Globe nominations guide (or relive the announcements via the near-30-minute video above). I'm already doing my best to watch as many of the nominated films and TV shows before the event takes place on January 5, so join me in frantically streaming as many as possible before the big day arrives! Description:
This week's streaming suggestions list is full of new TV shows and the odd movie recommendation.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

The first full working week of the year has ended, so it's time to sit back and enjoy a whole host of new movies and TV shows on the world's best streaming services .

Admittedly, there aren't many new films for cinephiles to check out, but
there are plenty of new series for you to watch instead. From new Netflix and Max-based dramas, to the return of a popular reality TV show, I'm sure you'll find something worth streaming this weekend from this week's list of suggestions. Have fun! Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter American Primeval (Netflix)

Neo-Western dramas have taken over the streaming world, such as Yellowstone and its subsequent spin-offs 1883 and 1923. Now, Netflix has caught on to the genre hype with its new show American Primeval.

Unlike Yellowstone, American Primeval doesnt have a contemporary twist and is instead a harrowing dramatization of the birth of the American West. Set in 1857 amid the Utah War, it follows the violent clash between culture, community, and politics as men and women battle for control of the land in a cruel new world. Going off the trailer, American Primeval is set to be a brutal and bloody watch so, if youre looking for a darker alternative to Yellowstone, you may have found your match. Well have to wait and see if it becomes one of the best Netflix shows , though. Grace Morris, entertainment writer The Traitors season 3 (Peacock)

The UK edition of this absorbing reality TV show's third season started
airing on BBC One right after New Year's. Now, US audiences can get their
fill of game-based backstabbing and treachery with the American version of
The Traitors , whose third season has finally arrived on Peacock .

Hosted once more by award-winning actor Alan Cummings, The Traitors season 3 will see a new gang of contestants vie for the series' cash prize by attempting to deceive their fellow players. After being split into two groups
the Traitors and the Faithful contestants will need to work together to eliminate the other team in order to win their share of the monetary fund. I've enjoyed what the UK version has had to offer so far this season, so I'm hopeful its US counterpart will deliver similarly shocking moments. TP The Pitt (Max)

Max s new medical drama caught my eye when I wrote about The Pitt's gripping new trailer in late 2024. In it, ER star Noah Wyle is back on hospital-based duties again as he leads the cast of this 15-episode series. It sounds like promising stuff, too, as it's been produced by The West Wing s John Wells,
and promises to show a realistic examination of what healthcare workers experience in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.

With numerous medical dramas on offer my favorite still being House this
one has an interesting twist. The Pitt takes place across a single emergency room shift, with each episode reflecting one hour within the hospitals walls. It's structurally identical to the Keifer Sutherland-led series 24, and I'm very excited about that. With such an intriguing premise, I do hope we can
add this to our best Max shows round-up. Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger (Netflix)

As I mentioned in my Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger trailer reaction .piece, I loved the original Netflix movie. After putting it on for an easy afternoon watch, I was soon sucked into Dave Fishwick's story, perfectly soundtracked
by Def Leppard (who make a cameo, too!). The first movie followed businessman Dave as he set up a community bank, which he created to offer as an alternative to the big high street banks to help the town's local businesses.

This time, he's got a brand new enemy in the form of payday lenders. As you can see from the trailer, Dave highlights the devastating effect they've had on his local community and beyond, and sets out to challenge them. He teams
up with some unlikely allies, and I can't wait to see even more of Dave's story, played by the always brilliant Rory Kinnear, who we last saw in The Rings of Power season 2 . I don't expect Bank of Dave 2 to join our best Netflix movies guide, but it's sure to leave a lasting impression on me. LB Goosebumps: The Vanishing (Disney Plus/Hulu)

If you loved the most recent Goosebumps adaptation on Disney Plus and Hulu , you wont want to miss this follow-up. I loved what Disney did with its first TV adaptation of R.L. Stine's beloved tween horror novels, which delivered something fresh while still featuring existing monsters and items that make
it so uniquely Goosebumps . Theres a huge new name attached to The Vanishing
, too with Friends star David Schwimmer joining the Goosebumps cast as Anthony, a recently divorced dad whose kids dont want to spend much time for him.

But there's a good reason for that. Anthonys son Devin, along with his sister Cece and their group of friends, begins to investigate a string of disappearances that took place in the 90s, which ends up taking a very dark turn. Considering how impressed I was with the first season, Im so excited
for this one. Hopefully, itll be another worthy entry to our best Disney Plus shows and best Hulu shows round ups. LB On Call (Prime Video)

Prime Video s latest TV Original On Call is an adrenaline junkies dream and puts an exciting spin on the cop drama genre. Indeed, On Call isnt all about sleuthing detectives and murder mysteries you see in a typical police procedural instead, its a visceral take on the patrol side of policing through the use of hand-held cameras, body cam, and dash-cam footage to
    create a cinema verit effect.

On Call follows veteran cop Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) and her partner-in-training Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente) as they respond to emergencies in Long Beach, California. With an interesting twist on the action-packed side of law enforcement, On Call certainly sounds like an intriguing watch on Amazon's streaming platform and has the potential to be one of the best Prime Video shows of the year so far. GM Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action (Netflix)

Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action is a two-part documentary that goes behind-the-scenes of Americas most controversial chat show to expose its huge scandals on and off camera. The documentary also explores the shows origins and meteoric rise with exclusive testimony from show insiders, producers and ex-guests who reveal its dark and destructive secrets.

With an 86% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action seems set to be included in our best Netflix documentaries guide. Im a fan of trash TV and, with this remarkable look into probably the trashiest one of all, itll be interesting to see the murky backstory behind the entertainment factor. GM

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (January 17)

    Date:
    Fri, 17 Jan 2025 15:00:30 +0000

    Description:
From the return of a highly-rated Apple TV Original to great-looking new movies, here's what's worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Congratulations, you made it through another week of non-stop work. Your
prize for doing so is putting your feet up and enjoying one or more of these new movies and TV shows on the world's best streaming services .

There's plenty to choose from, too. From the long overdue return of Apple's best TV Original to the debuts of some fun and highly emotional new films, this week's streaming suggestions cater for every type of movie and TV show fan. So, grab some snacks and join us in spending the next few days in front of your television. Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Severance
    season 2 (Apple TV Plus)

It's time, Severance fans! After a three-year absence, the highly-rated Apple TV Plus series is finally back on our screens and, as I allude to in my Severance season 2 review , it was absolutely worth the wait.

Picking up immediately after the events of its forebear's cliff hanger
ending, Severance season 2 reunites us with Mark Scout (Adam Scott), who returns to Lumon Industries to find that things aren't the same as he left them. That's all I'll say on the sci-fi mystery thriller's latest season,
too, because I don't want to spoil anything significant about one of the best Apple TV Plus shows ' sophomore outings. Just stick it on ASAP so your
'innie' and 'outie' can immerse themselves in the first unmissable show of
the year. TP Watch Severance season 2 on Apple TV Plus Alien: Romulus
    (Disney Plus)

In the so-called golden age of streaming, I'm always baffled when new films don't simultaneously drop on platforms owned by the same entertainment giant. That's exactly what happened with Alien: Romulus , which originally arrived
on Hulu (US only) in November 2024 but didn't make its Disney Plus debut internationally until this Wednesday (January 15).

Nevertheless, I can still vouch for how good this Alien film is. Set between the events of 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens , it follows a group of *ahem* alienated youths who, after traveling to an abandoned space station, get more than they bargained for when they run into the sci-fi horror franchise's iconic xenomorphs and face huggers. Before you stream one of the best Disney Plus movies and best Hulu movies , check out my exclusive chat with director Fede Alvarez about the film series' frighteningly bold evolution . TP Watch Alien: Romulus on Disney Plus (internationally) and Hulu (US) Back in Action (Netflix)

Cameron Diaz is finally, well, back in action after more than a decade of so-called retirement. The 90s rom-com star is back on our screens in a new action-packed Netflix movie that sees her play a character in a very similar sounding situation... In Back In Action, Diaz is Emily, a former CIA spy that's dragged back into work after both her and her husband's (Jamie Foxx) identity is exposed Diaz must have definitely related to Seth Gordon's and Brendan O'Brien's script when she read it.

The premise for Back In Action reads as if it could be the sequel to Mr & Mrs Smith , with Foxx playing Emily's fellow CIA retiree. Diaz's big comeback
film is one of 27 new movies streaming in 2025 that I'm excited to watch
after it was pushed back from a 2024 release, making this a great Friday
night action movie. Although, based on its abject Rotten Tomatoes score, one of January's new Netflix movies won't take a spot on our best Netflix films list. Amelia Schwanke, entertainment editor Watch Back in Action on Netflix Unstoppable (Prime Video)

Sticking with the theme of streaming big stars in new movies, we'd recommend heading over to Prime Video next to watch Unstoppable , a new docudrama about the inspirational life of NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was
born without a right leg. Robles, who plays a stunt double of himself in the movie, is portrayed by Jharrel Jerome ( Moonlight) with Jennifer Lopez ( Out of Sight) taking on the role of his mother.

That's not all, either: MCU actor Don Cheade has been cast as Roble's wrestling coach Shawn Charles, alongside Michael Pea ( American Hustle) who stars as Roble's high-school coach Bobby Williams and Bobby Cannavale ( The Station Agent) who plays Roble's step dad, making this one star-studded
sports biopic that could be in the running to earn a spot among our ranking
of the best Prime Video movies . AS Watch Unstoppable on Prime Video Harley Quinn season 5 (Max)

Harley Quinn has seen many forms over the years. Whether it's Margot Robbie's version in The Suicide Squad or Lady Gaga's recent take in the not so successful Joker: Folie a Deux , she's a character that continues to dominate our screens. Her adult animated (and really well done) outing continues on
Max with Harley Quinn season 5, which sees Kaley Cuoco reprises her role as the titular villain. This season, the iconic Batman antagonist has a new city to explore Metropolis, aka the city that Superman protects.

Joined by Poison Ivy and their group of misfits and villains including Clayface, who's getting a standalone live-action movie in the DC Universe ( DCU ), Harley has decided they should pack their bags and get out of Gotham.
I can't really blame them for leaving, considering the state it's in (note
the giant rats in the trailer). But, knowing Harley wherever she goes, chaos will follow. I hope Metropolis is ready for giant rats or whatever else they unleash... Anyway, check out one of the best Max shows ' latest chapter ASAP!
LB Watch Harley Quinn season 5 on Max XO, Kitty season 2 (Netflix)

As the first Netflix series to be spun off from a Netflix movie, XO, Kitty could be starting a new trend especially since it's performed well enough to be given a second season. If you haven't heard of it, you may have done so with To All the Boys I've Loved Before , the Netflix rom-com movie that inspired this whole thing. If you're new here, you've got two whole seasons
to enjoy this weekend and if you've been excitedly waiting for the next part, it's here!

Season 1 ended on a cliff hanger with truths revealed and feelings confessed so, if you're looking for your romance fix you're definitely going to get it here. I'm sure season 2 will tie up some loose ends from the first
instalment, and perhaps pave the way for a third one too? Only time will tell if that's the case and if XO, Kitty will be added to our best Netflix shows guide. LB Watch XO, Kitty season 2 on Netflix A Different Man (Max)

Max is the place to be when it comes to A24 movies (in the US, anyway). Some of my favorites are already available on the plaftorm, such as I Saw The TV Glow , i.e. my favorite movie of 2024. Another one is joining its library
this weekend and, with a glowing Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 92%, you won't want to miss it.

In A Different Man , Adam Pearson plays an aspiring actor who undergoes a medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance, which sees Pearson replaced in the lead role by Marvel star Sebastian Stan post-operation. However, he soon regrets his decision after it turns into a nightmare and he becomes obsessed with reclaiming what he's lost.

In classic A24 style, this flick hits hard, especially with its exploration
of neurofibromatosis type I, the condition that Pearson has. A24 seems to be going from strength to strength and there's more from them coming up this year. For now, I can't wait to see this one get added to our best Max movies list. LB Watch A Different Man on Max

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (January 24)

    Date:
    Fri, 24 Jan 2025 15:00:00 +0000

    Description:
All but two of the world's biggest streamers have something new for you to watch this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Another week has ended and, two of the world's best streaming services aside (step up your game, Hulu and Disney Plus ), there's something new to watch on their rival platforms this weekend.

Indeed, from a couple of new movies that originally released in theaters in late 2024, to a bunch of new shows (and the return of a smash-hit Netflix series), there's plenty for you to wrap your eyeballs around over the next
few days. Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter The Night Agent season 2 (Netflix)

From The Recruit to Black Doves , Netflix has slowly been building out its back catalog of fun, dramatic, and thrilling spy genre shows. Few are more popular on the service, though, than The Night Agent , whose first season was a surprise overnight hit for the streaming titan and earned it a spot on our best Netflix shows list.

Two years on from that unprecedented success, the spy thriller is back for
its second season. This time around, trust is in short supply for
newly-minted Night Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who becomes embroiled in another wild conspiracy that'll force him to question who he can really rely on. I'll be tuning in to see if Netflix's seventh most-watched English TV Original of all-time can build on its debut season's almighty performance. Before you do likewise, get the lowdown on the show's return
with our The Night Agent season 2 hub. TP Watch The Night Agent season 2 on Netflix Prime Target (Apple TV Plus)

Apple TV Plus keeps its busy start to 2025 going with new espionage thriller Prime Target , which stars One Day actor Leo Woodall alongside Quintessa Swindell from Euphoria . In the Apple TV Original, Woodall plays a math genius, who's working on a secret research project to discover patterns in prime numbers that eventually catches the attention of Swindell's NSA surveillance operative.

The idea that the story is built around is the fact that prime numbers form the basis of the world's most common types of encryption that are still
widely used today, which is why a Cambridge graduate cracking the code is of seismic global proportions in this new series. The best way I can think to describe it is the Da Vinci Code meets Good Will Hunting and, while it might not rank among the best Apple TV Plus shows , it's an absorbing watch no
less. Amelia Schwanke, entertainment editor Watch Prime Target on Apple TV Plus The Wild Robot (Peacock)

One of the best 52 movies of 2024 has finally made its streaming debut well, in the US (sorry, UK and Australian readers). The Wild Robot is an absolute joy of a film, with its gorgeous, painterly art style and wonderfully
realized animation, emotionally resonant story, and top-tier voice acting making for a perfect, easy-to-watch flick on Peacock this weekend.

Marvel star Lupita Nyong'o voices Roz, a service robot who becomes
shipwrecked on a remote island that's inhabited by talking animals. Unsurprisingly, she's viewed as an outsider by the creatures that live on it. But, armed with a steely determination to adapt to her environment, plus the fact that she becomes the adoptive mother of an orphaned goose called Brightbill ( Heartstopper 's Kit Connor), Roz resolves to not only ingratiate herself with the locals, but also become their protector-in-chief. A
beautiful movie in more ways than one that deserves to be seen. TP Watch
The Wild Robot on Peacock (available to rent on Amazon, Apple TV, and more services in the UK and Australia) Gladiator II (Paramount Plus)

Ridley Scotts highly anticipated follow-up to iconic 2000 movie Gladiator is now available on Paramount Plus (again, only in the US, though). If you
werent among those who took part in last years unexpected double bill Glicked (thats Gladiator II and Wicked ), you can bring the thrill of the Colossuem
to your home. It hasnt performed as well as Wicked , which was recently nominated for Best Picture , but its 71% Rotten Tomatoes rating means it
could be worthy of a spot on our best Paramount Plus movies round-up.

With a brilliant ensemble cast like Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Derek Jacobi, the movie is set 15 years after the first and is definitely worth your time if you are a fan of the original. Its perfect if youre looking for an action packed movie this weekend. Altogether now: are
you not entertained!? Lucy Buglass, entertainment writer Watch Gladiator II on Paramount Plus C.B. Strike: The Ink Black Heart (Max)

Max is now home to the TV adaptation of controversial author J. K. Rowlings novel series of the same name, which were published under her pseudonym
Robert Galbraith. The series follows private detective Cormoran Strike who teams up with his assistant Robin Ellacott to take on cases that have baffled the police, hoping they can finally get to the bottom of what happened. Its
no easy task and they work out of a cramped office, but they get the job
    done.

Therell be weekly episodic releases for this one, and the series has already premiered in the UK where its been met with some seriously mixed reviews. Its Rotten Tomatoes score is too low to guarantee a spot to our best Max shows , but you might have a good time with it regardless. LB Watch C.B. Strike: The Ink Black Heart on Max Star Trek: Section 31 (Paramount Plus)

Paramount Plus has released its first-ever made Star Trek TV movie; a 100-minute spin-off of galactic proportions that focuses on the secret Star Fleet agency called Section 31. Star Trek: Section 31 sees Michelle Yeoh reprise her role as emperor Philippa Georgiou who we met in the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery before she eventually becomes a member of the special ops division.

It's a little different to your usual Star Trek movies, with Yeoh previously describing it as a mix of Mission : Impossible and Guardians of the Galaxy , which makes sense with the plot's merry band of mercenaries that get caught
up in a heist to defend the United Federation of Planets against multi-universal threats. It's been through a lot of iterations to get here
(it was originally going to be a series), which means that "there was so much more" that was left out , Yeoh's fellow star Sven Ruygrok told us. That might be why long-time Trekkies and newcomers alike have absolutely slammed it,
with many labeling it one of the franchise's worst-ever projects. Ouch! AS Watch Star Trek: Section 31 on Paramount Plus Harlem season 3 (Prime Video)

The third and final season of Harlem is out now. Prime Video s beloved comedy series is coming to an end, but Im sure the Amazon TV Original will go out on a high. Youll get two episodes each week until the finale on February 6, and Im sure this will beat the January Blues some of us might be feeling.

The iconic cast made up of Meagan Good, Grace Byers, Shoniqua Shandaie,
Jerrie Johnson, Tyler Lepley and Whoopi Goldberg are all back, with a few surprises and new faces teased for the final instalment. Weve got plenty of great comedy recommendations on our best Prime Video shows round-up if you need to fill the Harlem shaped hole in your heart, though nothing can quite compare to how great this is. From Marvel's new animated Spider-Man show to The Recruit's return, here's what's worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

January has finally run its course. But, before it makes way for the shortest month of the year, the world's best streaming services want you to check out the final new movies and TV shows they've released this month.

There's an eclectic mix of films and TV series to check out, too. From Marvel's first project of 2025 and the return of The Recruit , to the first Amazon Original movie of the year and much more besides, there's something
for everyone to enjoy this weekend. Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Disney Plus)

I'm a huge Spider-Man fan so, when this Disney Plus series originally titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year was initially announced in mid-2021, you can bet I was excited. Over three years later, and Your Friendly Neighborhood
Spider-Man is finally with us, albeit as a show that exists adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe ( MCU ), rather than the canonical series that it was originally intended to be.

So, is it any good? You'll need to read my spoiler-light review of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man 's first season to find out. For now, all I'll say is that, its incredibly divisive and oft-times clunky animation
style aside, this Marvel Phase 5 production might have enough to swing its
way onto our best Disney Plus shows list. TP Watch Your Friendly
Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney Plus The Recruit season 2 (Netflix)

While The Night Agent season 2 continues to dominate the Netflix charts , The Recruit is another spy thriller thats set to deliver more heart-pounding action and unpredictable twists in its second installment. Noah Centineo returns as CIA lawyer-turned-spy Owen Hendricks who is dragged into a life-threatening espionage incident in South Korea, but he soon realizes that the bigger threat might be coming from inside the Agency.

With its 68% Rotten Tomatoes score, The Recruit doesnt make it onto our best Netflix shows list, but I know it'll satiate my thriller appetite once I finish watching The Night Agent season 2. Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch The Recruit season 2 on Netflix You're Cordially Invited (Prime Video)

It looks like there could be a new comedy duo in the making as Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon team up for Prime Video s new movie You're Cordially Invited. In one of January's final new Prime Video movies , chaos ensues when the father of a bride-to-be (Ferrell) and the sister of another bride (Witherspoon) discover their destination weddings are booked on the same weekend.

Youre Cordially Invited takes me right back to the classic slapstick 2000s comedy, which is why its one of the three new Prime Video movies I'm excited to watch this January . So, you best believe Im bringing my popcorn and watching this potential best Prime Video movie I mean, who doesnt want to
see Ferrell wrestling an alligator on a hotel bed?! GM Watch You're
Cordially Invited on Prime Video Mythic Quest season 4 (Apple TV Plus)

It's been two years since workplace comedy series Mythic Quest 's last season debuted on Apple TV Plus , but the wait for a new installment is finally over as season 4's first two episodes dropped on Wednesday (January 29).

As one of my 26 most highly-anticipated TV shows of 2025 , I'm excited to stream the acclaimed show's next chapter, which is expected to bring fresh challenges to the fictional gaming studio as it navigates new trends in the industry. Apple isn't saying anything else about what could be in store, so you'll just have to stream it to find out.

Of course, seeing as it's the final season of one of the best Apple TV Plus shows , fans might be disappointed that the series is drawing to a close, but the good news is that there's already a spin-off show on the way called Side Quest, the first four episodes of which will premiere on March 26. Amelia Schwanke, entertainment editor Watch Mythic Quest season 4 on Apple TV Plus Paradise (Hulu/Disney Plus)

Hulu subscribers received a treat earlier this week when the first episode
of Paradise dropped early . Now, there are two more episodes to sink your teeth into, with episodes 2 and 3 launching on, well, its official release
    day of January 28.

If youre looking for a gripping new political thriller, the series already
has an impressive 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes which means its worthy of a spot on our best Hulu shows list. The series has a great cast, too, including Sterling K. Brown who stars a security service team tasked with safeguarding
a former president (James Marsden), but things take a turn for the worse when
spoiler! the latter is murdered by an unknown assailant. New episodes
arrive every Tuesday (in the US, anyway international audiences can stream them on Wednesdays via Disney Plus) until the finale on March 4. Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Paradise on Hulu (US) and Disney Plus (internationally) American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson (Netflix)

This four-episode docuseries explores one of the most notorious trials in history: The People of the State of California versus Orenthal James Simpson, aka one of the world's biggest basketball stars of his generation. Director Floyd Russ has already made a similar documentary about The Boston Marathon Bombing and, in American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson , he aims to shed new light on what has been described as the trial of the century.

Speaking to Tudum , Russ stressed: The key was to make sure that both sides were balanced. To make clear that this isnt just a true crime cop
documentary. Its much deeper. So, you need people to contextualize the history, the trial. With plenty of hit true crime shows on Netflix theres a lot to dive into so, of you are keen to learn more about the trial and have
an interest in legal cases, thats your weekend viewing sorted. LB Watch American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson on Netflix Goodrich (Max)

Michael Keaton goes back to his comedy roots in Goodrich, one of January's
new Max movies that originally debuted in theaters last year . Written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, who's behind 90s feel-good comedies like The Parent Trap and Father of the Bride, this new Max comedy film also sounds
like it's going to pull on your heart strings.

Keaton plays a father called Andy Goodrich who suddenly has to become the primary caretaker of his two nine-year-old twins when his wife enters a
90-day rehab program. Unfamiliar with modern parenthood, Andy looks to his daughter from his first marriage Grace (played by Mila Kunis) to learn the ropes.

As you can probably expect, this brings Andy and Grace closer together as
they repair their father and daughter bond, which has likely suffered since his new marriage. One that has the potential to be one of the best Max movies . AS Watch Goodrich on Max

From the return of the best superhero show to top-tier movies, here's what's worth watching this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

We're one week away from the most romantic time of the year but, the home release of A24's latest romantic drama and a new Apple TV Original aside, there aren't many Valentine's Day-themed films and TV series to check out
    this weekend.

Nevertheless, there are a plethora of new movies and shows that you'll *ahem* fall in love with before Monday arrives. From the return of Invincible to Kaitlyn Dever's new Netflix drama, I'm confident that, with our help, you'll find something worth watching on the world's best streaming services over the next few days. Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Invincible season 3 (Prime Video)

The world's best superhero series is already back on our screens. We had a near-three year wait on our hands between Invincible seasons 1 and 2, but the popular Prime Video show's latest chapter was co-developed alongside its forebear. Long story short: Invincible season 3 is here less than 12 months after the R-rated animated show's last entry.

Its first three episodes are out now and new installments will release weekly until the season 3 finale on March 6. Before you tune into one of the best Prime Video shows ' third outing, read my Invincible season 3 review to see what I thought of its first six episodes. I can't contain my excitement to
see Mark Grayson and company again here's hoping the wait for the Amazon show's already confirmed fourth season isn't an extensive one! TP Watch Invincible season 3 on Prime Video Apple Cider Vinegar (Netflix)

I've just binge-watched Apple Cider Vinegar and it's one of the best Netflix limited series I've seen in a while. In fact, it's so good I might even add
it to our best Netflix shows round-up.

Alright, so what's it about? Kaitlyn Dever plays Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who claimed she cured her terminal brain cancer with diet and wellness products. You might think it's a bold claim and you'd be right, because Belle did not have cancer and actually tricked a community into believing her story and profited off the back of it. The series dramatizes Belle's rise and fall, and continually reminds us that it's "true-ish", with some names and scenarios changed.

Throughout, you'll learn more about Belle, her victims, and the investigative journalists who worked tirelessly to bring her down, exposing her lies and
the fact she managed to scam people out of money, encouraging them to buy her app, her cookbook, and worst of all donate to charities that she
financially benefited from instead. Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment
writer Watch Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix We Live in Time (Max)

Following its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September and a successful theatrical run in the US and UK, We Live In Time has racked up glowing reviews at the time of writing, it has a 79% Rotten Tomatoes from
the critics and an 83% rating from audiences. Now, it's available to stream
on Max (in the US, anyway).

Many have praised the phenomenal performances from Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, who play singletons who fall in love after a surprise encounter.
The movie spans multiple decades, which means we'll follow the pair through different stages of their lives as they build a home and start a family.

Given that the movie's director John Crowley is behind several highly-rated romance films, including the period drama Brooklyn starring Saoirse Ronan, I have high hopes that this will carve out a new space in our best Max movies guide. Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch We Live in Time on Max Clean Slate (Prime Video)

Next up on Prime Videos stellar catalog of original content is Clean Slate. The comedy series follows Harry (George Wallace), an old-school Alabama car wash owner who's surprised when his estranged child returns home as a proud trans woman called Desiree (Laverne Cox). As their reunion brings together a cast of amusing friends and neighbors, Desiree and Harry must process their new relationship as father and daughter.

This sweet and cozy sitcom sounds right up my street and its powerful premise has the ability to be one of Amazon's best TV Originals. Despite there being 90 movies added to the platform in everything new on Prime Video in February 2025 , I certainly wont be missing this release. Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Clean Slate on Prime Video Kinda Pregnant (Netflix)

Weve all told a little white lie in our lives, but I think the majority of us can agree that weve never gone to the extreme lengths of pretending to be pregnant unless youre Amy Schumers character in this bizarre new Netflix movie Kinda Pregnant. The rather absurd plot tells the story of Lainy (Schumer), who decides to fake a pregnancy when she becomes jealous of the attention that her pregnant best friend is receiving. If that wasnt bad enough, she also falls in love while knee-deep in the lie.

Critics and viewers aren't fans of the rom-coms outrageous twist (its horrendous 18% Rotten Tomatoes score speaks to that). But, while it clearly misses out on being one of the best Netflix movies , Im intrigued to see
Kinda Pregnants portrayal of the highs and lows of motherhood, and the power of female friendship. GM Watch Kinda Pregnant on Netflix Love You to Death (Apple TV Plus)

This new Apple TV Plus comedy drama series follows follows Ral, a man who was recently diagnosed with cancer and Marta, who just discovered she is
pregnant. The two reconnect after attending the funeral of a high school classmate where they end up embarking on a whirlwind romance. Together, they try to navigate this often strange world together and this rom-com is set apart from others considering they're at two very different stages of their lives; with Ral dealing with a challenging diagnosis and Marta preparing to bring a new life into this world. It's hardly a fairytale, and that's exactly what makes it so great.

The humor here is necessary to balance out the darker subjects and it seems
to tackle both very well indeed. With Valentine's Day next week, it's a good pick if you want something a bit different that still has that classic
rom-com feel to it. With only 7 episodes it's pretty bingeable, but we'll
have to see if it makes it onto our best Apple TV Plus shows list. LB Watch Love You to Death on Apple TV Plus The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl
    (Disney Plus)

Who else thinks 1994's The Lion King movie is the best animated Disney film
of all-time? I know I'm not alone on this one and, while everyone will have different reasons for why they love it, one highlight that we can all surely agree on is that it has a phenomenal original soundtrack.

I've been lucky enough to hear these songs live as part of its stage play adaptation, which was a special experience, but to be able to listen to the soundtrack by a live orchestra is something else entirely.

That's why I'll absolutely be streaming The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl concert special tonight on Disney Plus to celebrate the animation's 30th anniversary. The concert, which will see a 70-person orchestra perform alongside dancers and puppets, even features a reunion of the original voice cast, making it a must-see for fans. 7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (February 28)

    Date:
    Fri, 28 Feb 2025 15:00:00 +0000

    Description:
From exciting new TV shows to this year's Oscars ceremony, here's what's
    worth streaming this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

Happy Oscars weekend, everyone! The world's glitziest event of the year is upon us and, no matter where you live, you'll be able to watch it on one of the world's best streaming services or one of your nation's local networks.

If you've had your fill of the 2025 awards season and want to watch something else, we've also got you covered on that front. Indeed, there are a number of exciting new movies and shows to stream over the next few days, so read on to see what you can enjoy ahead of the first week of March. Enjoy! Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Running Point (Netflix)

It looks like Netflix is hoping to follow the success of the hit Apple TV+ sports comedy Ted Lasso with its new series Running Point. Swapping soccer
for basketball, Kate Hudson takes on the role of a female Ted Lasso-style sports leader in Isla Gordon, who's unexpectedly put in charge of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most famous professional basketball franchises in the US. In short: she must prove that shes the right person for the job.

Going off the trailer alone, the Mindy Kaling-created series shares a similar humor and cheerfulness to Ted Lasso. We'll see if it's an ideal watch while
we wait for a Ted Lasso 's rumored fourth season but, based on its 69% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, it doesn't live up its rival' critical acclaim . Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch Running Point on Netflix The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim (Max)

An exciting and late addition to our everything new on Max in February 2025 article is The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim . Set nearly 200 years before The Lord of the Rings , one of February's final new Max movies tells the story of Helm Hammerhand (voiced by Brian Cox), the legendary King of Rohan. The War of the Rohirrim focuses on the Rohan's last stand against the Dunlendings after he unintentionally kills their leader and unleashes a full-blown war.

With its 49% Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim won't make it onto our best Max movies list. However, I think its still a unique and enjoyable way to bring to life the fantastical world of Middle-earth, especially in its anime format. GM Watch The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim on Max House of David (Prime Video)

House of David is a new Prime Video show that chronicles the rise of
biblical figure David (Michael Iskander), aka the renowned king of Israel.
The historical drama follows the once-powerful King Saul (Ali Suliman) as he falls victim to his own pride and, with Gods direction, the prophet Samuel (Stephen Lang) anoints a teenage outcast as the new king. Cue a battle for
    the throne.

Show creator Jon Erwin told ABC Entertainment News that House of David is similar to Game of Thrones as it explores the struggle for power , so this biblical epic certainly has the potential to be one of the best Prime Video shows . Whether Amazon's newest TV Original will, though, is up for debate. GM Watch House of David on Prime Video Berlin ER (Apple TV Plus)

Itll take a lot to knock Severance season 2 off top spot, both in terms of Apple TV+ rankings and my own personal one, but Im ready to give Berlin ER a go. Theres tough competition when it comes to our best Apple TV+ shows , and only time will tell if this new series will make it onto that list. Fans of popular medical dramas like Greys Anatomy , House, and new Max series The
Pitt will likely enjoy this, but I hope its got enough for newcomers to the genre, too.

The eight-episode program follows a young doctor seeking a fresh start after her personal life falls apart. The treatment? Throwing herself into the emergency room in Berlins busiest hospital. Its no easy task, of course, and she soon finds herself battling staff resistance and a run-down system, which is plenty to distract yourself with, in all fairness. You cant think about your personal problems when youre out there saving lives, right? LB Watch Berlin ER on Apple TV+ Toxic Town (Netflix)

The Corby toxic waste case wasn't something I'd heard of until this Netflix show was announced, but, after reading about it, I know this dramatic retelling will make me cry. The four-part series follows three mothers who fought for justice after a growing number of babies were born with birth defects. The reported number was three times higher than those observed in children born in the surrounding regions, so it was up to ordinary citizens
to get to the bottom of it. This case bears an upsetting resemblance to the Teflon scandal, as dramatized in the brilliant movie Dark Waters, which I
    also recommend you check out.

If Toxic Town 's plot wasn't enough to hook me, the cast certainly is, with huge names including Doctor Who alumnus Jodie Whittaker, Bank of Dave star Rory Kinnear, and Sex Education ' s Aimee Lou Wood all involved. Will we be adding this to our best Netflix shows list? You'll have to wait and see.
Based on its early glowing reviews, it seems a no-brainer though. Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Toxic Town on Netflix Doubters to Believers Liverpool: Klopp's Era (Prime Video)

As a huge Everton fan, I feel particularly dirty writing about our biggest (not the mention local!) soccer rivals in Liverpool FC. But, considering nobody else on the entertainment team is interested in the so-called
beautiful game, I've got to suck it up. I want the record to show that I'm really not happy about this, though!

Anyway, Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp's Era is a must-see Prime Video docuseries for anyone who religiously follows the current English Premier League leaders. The four-part show will deliver unprecedented, fly-on-the-wall access to Jurgen Klopp's final six months in charge of the Anfield-based soccer outfit, and will look back at his trophy-laden spell in charge of one of the world's most-supported sides.

Amazon has become the go-to place for the best sports docuseries around, but this is one I definitely won't be tuning in to watch. Yes, I'm just that bitter! TP Doubters to Believers Liverpool: Klopp's Era on Prime Video The 2025 Oscars (Hulu)

Its that time of year again! Well be celebrating the biggest and best in the movie world this weekend, and weve all got strong thoughts about who should and shouldnt win. Unsurprisingly, I'm rooting for The Substance to do well after hailing it as the best body horror of 2024 . Meanwhile, my colleague Rowan Davies said he couldnt believe that Netflix's Emilia Perez is this year's most-nominated movie or TV show at the time of the Golden Globes nominees, so the controversial movie is still frustrating cinema lovers as we go into Oscar season.

There are plenty of big releases worthy of praise, though, and Im expecting big things from Conclave , The Brutalist, and Anora. Sometimes, these ceremonies are full of surprises, so well have to wait patiently for the results. Dont miss the entertainment industrys biggest award ceremony when
its streaming on Hulu (US), ITV1 (UK), and Channel 7 (Australia). LB Watch the 2025 Oscars on Hulu (US), ITV1 (UK), and Channel 7 (Australia)

7 new movies and TV shows to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and more this weekend (March 7)

    Date:
    Fri, 07 Mar 2025 15:00:00 +0000

    Description:
From Daredevil: Born Again to Meghan Markle's new Netflix series, here's what's worth watching at home this weekend.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================

March has arrived (does anyone else feel like they blinked and February was over?), and the third month of 2025 has already given us lots of exciting new movies and TV shows to watch at home. Admittedly, most of them have debuted
on four of the world's best streaming services , but I'm trying not to judge their rivals, such as Apple TV+ , especially when the latter has served up
one of 2025's best shows so far in Severance season 2 .

Anyway, aside from a new episode of Severance , there's plenty more to stream this weekend, including the revival of Netflix's Daredevil TV show. So,
scroll on to see our seven top picks for the week. Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter Daredevil: Born Again season 1 (Disney+)

The devil's work is never done and that's certainly the case for Matt
Murdock and his crimefighting alter-ego. Almost six years after Netflix canceled its beloved TV adaptation starring The Man Without Fear, Marvel has revived it with Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ .

Essentially, it's Daredevil season 4 is all but name, but that's a very good thing. The New York-based lawyer/vigilante's live-action series is not only
as epic as it is brutal, but also one of my all-time favorite shows, so I'm delighted that it's had new life breathed into it as a Marvel Cinematic Universe ( MCU ) project. The first two episodes are out now but, before you stream them, read my Daredevil: Born Again review to see whether I think this Marvel Phase 5 program deserves to be added to our best Disney+ shows guide. TP Watch Daredevil: Born Again season 1 on Disney+ With Love, Meghan
    (Netflix)

Looking for something a bit more wholesome? Why not cosy up on the couch with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, for eight episodes of cooking, gardening, and hosting advice on Netflix .

Originally due to air in January, Netflix delayed this series' release due to the wildfires that ravaged LA. Now, this show is out in full, but early reviews aren't overly favorable, which means it won't make the cut for our best Netflix shows guide. Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor Watch With Love, Meghan on Netflix Heretic (Max)

Im so excited that more people can experience this horror gem on Max .
Heretic 's major selling point is that Hugh Grant swapped his typical
charming bachelor character for a creepy loner, but it's so much more than that.

Stylish, tense, and full of theological questions, Heretic is a great
addition to A24's catalog. There's plenty to enjoy here, and it does enough for it to stand out among the endless sea of new horror movies in March . I'm also keen to re-watch this and spot things I might've missed the first time around as it feels like the kind of movie which benefits from a second viewing. Even though it wasnt my favorite horror movie of 2024 , I still enjoyed it and feel like it deserves a spot on our best Max movies round-up.
Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer Watch Heretic on Max The Leopard (Netflix)

Netflix is somewhat of an expert when it comes to period dramas. That much is clear with Bridgerton , aka o ne of Netflix's most popular shows of all-time.

Now, the streamer has lined up a royal rival with Italian period drama The Leopard. Based on the classic novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, the eponymous Leopard is Don Fabrizio Corbera, the Prince of
Salina (Kim Rossi Stuart) who grapples with the impact of his familys ancient privilege and revolutionary change in 1860s Sicily. I cant wait to be transported back in time with this sumptuous historical spectacle and, with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Leopard has a chance of gracing our best Netflix shows guide. Grace Morris, entertainment writer Watch The Leopard on Netflix Fear (Prime Video)

Fear is Prime Video 's latest thriller series and it's got a truly
terrifying premise. Line of Duty star Martin Compston leads the cast as a father who has relocated his family from London to an idyllic location in Glasgow, hoping for a fresh start. It's the kind of scenario that provides
the backdrop for plenty of thrillers where, unfortunately, someone's dream home becomes a living nightmare.

Things go terribly wrong when the family begins to be stalked by their neighbor, who begins to accuse them of horrible things and becomes a terrifying presence in their lives. Throughout three episodes, you'll unravel what's going on, making it the perfect weekend binge-watch. It hasn't got a Rotten Tomatoes score yet so we'll have to see if it's good enough for inclusion in our best Prime Video shows article. LB Watch Fear on Prime
Video The Righteous Gemstones season 4 (Max)

The Righteous Gemstones return as the televangelist family go on their final religious outing in the hit Max comedy. For the uninformed: one of the best Max shows follows the Gemstones, who commit sinful acts and hide shocking secrets while trying to build their religious empire.

With its witty parody on spiritual grandiosity and Succession - like family dynamics , its no surprise that its one of the six Max movies and shows were most excited to watch in March. After watching Walton Goggins in The White Lotus season 3 , I'm excited to see him at his comedic best in The Righteous Gemstones season 4 along with the rest of the misfit family. GM Watch The Righteous Gemstones season 4 on Max Chaos: The Manson Murders (Netflix)

Looking for a new documentary this weekend? As part of Netflix's March 2025 line-up , the streaming giant has released a chilling docufilm that
completely upends what we thought we knew about the infamous Manson murders.

Adapted from a book by Tom O'Neill with Dan Piepenbring, Chaos: The Manson Murders brings new evidence from years of research, interviews and never-before-seen documents. Acclaimed documentary maker Errol Morris ( The Thin Blue Line; The Fog War: Eleven Lessons from the life of Robert S
McNamara ) revisits these interviews, including with Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor-turned-author that chronicled the trial, to unravel a potential conspiracy involving the CIA and others that surrounds the killings. AS
