Viraling Genetic Transfer With Cas9

Now what if Cas9 DNA re-sequencing was attached to a virulent virus? What if the re-sequencing mechanism of Cas9 was coded into a virus so that a person could cough from their "infection" of Cas9 and have the virus transferred to a person via the air and cause Cas9 genetic transfer and re-sequencing in a person who had never themselves received a shot of Cas9. You could maliciously transfer a mechanism of gene modification to an unwitting random person in the public. And when that person got "sick" from their gene "therapy" they could spread the same to other unwitting random people.

It is for reasons such as this that Cas9 should be a regulated technology and not be played with in scientists' underground labs. It is sexy to have a bio-hacker with their very own gene therapy lab, however, with the potential genetic meaveance that could occur it is in my opinion not something that should be promoted or practiced. Granted science may develop much faster when it is unregulated, however with the potential viral transmission of arbitrary genes to the general population at the will of a bad actor, I see it as a danger. It is a danger not yet realized, but entirely possible and profoundly and extremely dangerous. I use the word "dangerous" because I can't think of anything more extreme at the moment, but I must emphasize the magnitude of how dangerous thing thing really is. This is the weaponization of genetic code that has been liberated from a host human indefinitely to the population at large in general. Think of getting a common cold and being viraled-in the genes for super-human strength or endurance. Or consider the things that a new Hitler could do with this kind of technology. I dare not speculate on that further; the terrors that could come from this kind of experimentation are as yet undrempt of. The children have learned to set fires with lighters and there is no un-learning this knowledge. They could heat their homes with fireplaces or burn the whole establishment down with genetic meviance.
