• VeraCrypt - The best crypto software out there

From warmfuzzy@700:100/0 to All on Friday, May 04, 2018 20:47:59
For several years the best crypto software was TrueCrypt, however it was closed-source and it was eventually removed from being available from some unknown reason. However, now steps in something new and better. With all
the features of TrueCrypt plus some new features and security patches lets welcome VeraCrypt --- based on TrueCrypt, but open source and more secure...
ba dum ba dum enters VERACRYPT. You can get it for free from:

    https://archive.codeplex.com/p?=veracrypt

And it works on Linux, Mac, Windows, BSD, RaspPi, and in source-code for
anyone who's using a system not listed.

This software is able to do whole-disk encryption, steganographic file allocation, use several crypto schemes, double or triple up one algorithm on top of another, and its interface is easy to understand and use.

I hope that this info finds you well.

    Best regards,
    warmfuzzy

Hmmm I'd lean more toward opengpg as the more secure format now. Veracrypt
has been through too many odd changes too trust for my taste

OpenGPG doesn't do disk encryption like VeraCrypt, does it?

I haven't heard of any changes since it forked from Truecrypt, what have you heard?

From what I understand OpenGPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a public key cipher used mainly in e-mail communications while VeraCrypt uses private key ciphers (symmetric cryptography) to secure the contents its protecting, where
VeraCrypt secures files, directories, and entire disks, while GPG secures the communication channels that contain the files.

So: Public Key Crypto ==> GPG
Private Key Crypto ==> VERAcrypt's selection of Symmetric Ciphers

Where public key cryptography is very slow and private key crypto is much much faster

However they have different uses, where GPG's RSA/EnGamel secures the channel and short messages, while VERAcrypt secures large amounts of data.

Both types of cryptogrpahy are needed, but they do different things.
