I haven't had any success finding a Win32 binary for sed newer than
4.2.1. Does anyone have a link? All I could find were pages without
links or 64 bit binaries. I'm trying to get a batch file to work with fastecho to add TZUTC kludges, but it doesn't work with my version.
For some reason, it doesn't support surrounding the command with ' and doesnt' seem to support \x0D or any other hex values...

Chocolatey has sed 4.9 available if you use it (and you should).
"choco install sed" will do it.
If you aren't using Chocolatey with Windows, you should be. It's a
package manager for Windows like apt or rpm.

Win7 did ... the reason I had to do a hot fix release of 1.19a YEARS ago because RG wouldn't load anymore with some of the changes we did without a work around wrote in.
My board has remained on XP for decades now for that reason and how NTVDM became broken either in Vista or 7. I can't prove it but am convinced it is
Weird stuff like some doors crashing that never crashed before, mailer inexplicably closing... none of these problems happen on the XP instance.

Good luck finding any modern software for Win 7 unless you compile it yourself.
Maybe someone in Micronet could compile a version for you?

I searched for a bit to find something, anything that documented changes wi NTVDM over time to no avail. At the very least if the changes were document by M$ what these were; I could of easily reworked or patched things here to make it all work on 7 or 10.
I do remember testing code on 10 before and after some large update that really sent DOS apps into a tailspin. This was on the LTSC release without bloatware crap, not even Defender.

I know ... I remember people calling me retarded when I said Windows update the reason for this release because I woke up the next morning and loaded t BBS and it would't load. And guess what, Windows updated over night. Hmmm ... yup, I'm the fool.
Ok, I tried to install Win10 32 bit, but the ntvdm kept crashing. It
you think it's worth the upgrade and my dos programs will still work.

windows 10 is not bloated and can run a bbs just fine.

I run windows 10 32bit on this VM for the BBS and have no issues with dos programs or ntvdm crashing. Ran a dos BBS for years on it as well.
Ok, I tried to install Win10 32 bit, but the ntvdm kept crashing. It
took me forever to get the backup back to where it was, I had made a
mess of things... I'm back on Win7 32 bit for now. I might try again tomorrow, if you think it's worth the upgrade and my dos programs will still work.

I haven't tried Windows for a BBS since 2000. I'm not the person to ask though hve you looked at NTVDM64?

I run a ton of doorgames and i have goofy stuff like doorway launching
them or dosbox. I haven't had issues with ntvdm.

Isn't there a "lite" distribution out there? I used to run TinyXP, it
was just enough XP to run a BBS, idled in 200 megs of RAM.

I meant even "lite"er. TinyXP was missing Internet Explorer and all of
the other built-in apps.

yeah they still make stripped down versions but stuff can be broken.
you can really just run windows 10 with 2 gigs of ram probably.

I ran my BBS on a mobile Core 2 duo and 3GB nicely on 32-bit Windows.
Ran a Shoutcast station, too.

i ran tinyxp and tiny7 before. then i figured fuck it, run the real thing. it's less broken and the requirements are low.
