Hi everyone,

I have discovered a "live TV" channel on The Roku Channel I love: it
had "How It's Made" on heavy rotation. I fire up The Roku Channel in my
Web browser and listen to it while I work on the computer(s). Quite
relaxing for me.

When I was in the throes of an active COVID infection and in a delrious
state due to fever, I planted myself in my recliner and watched HIM all
day and all night so my miund would have something to focus on. I was suffering from some crazy fever dreams and for some reason, as long as I
had HIM on while I slept, I did not have those weird dreams.

I don't watch a lot of TV directly but I tend to have HIM and "America's
Test Kitchen", which has a similar channel on The Roku Channel, on a lot
for background noise while I work.

I do have a nice older Bose 3-2-1 A/V unit that I'm going to be setting
up soon. That has both AM and FM receivers in it so I'll listen to the
radio a lot more then.

The channel has other shows on at times but 90% of the time, it's "How It's Made". I alternate between that and watching the "Modern Marvels" channel though I don't like the new dumbed-down episodes with a host.

Exploring Roku channels is like trolling the UHF dial when I was
growing up. Lots of odd content. It's akin now to firing up KODI or
scanning through terrestrial HD TV.

One of my old BBS callers from the dial-up days had his own channel -
it was trivia and number games/quizzes for bars. Not sure if it was
financially viable or not.

I do have a nice older Bose 3-2-1 A/V unit that I'm going to be setting
up soon. That has both AM and FM receivers in it so I'll listen to the radio a lot more then.

My local high-tech thrift store has seen some Bose wave radios and
Tivoli table radios. Nice, but the dial is pretty empty where I am. I
have a right-wing local station that feels like it's all commercials on
AM, and one or two decent FM stations, again, laden with commercials.
We've been spoiled with on-demand music and podcasts.

You never knew about that?!? I'm glad they finally made it a "channel" so I didn't have to search in the roku channel to get to it.

There is also, STIRR, and Pluto TV as well .... Pluto TV is by far the
best for free "live tv"

I only have a few actual Roku channels. The channel I'm talking about
is The Roku Channel which is a meta-channel for a LOT of Roku's best
content. Outside of that, I have a couple of news channels, Prime
Video, Paramount++ (which I can access via TRC), YouTube, and Pub-D-Hub.

There is also, STIRR, and Pluto TV as well .... Pluto TV is by far the best for free "live tv"

Pluto didn't have much I was interested in and since I do subscribe to Paramount+ already, I don't need two Paramount-owned channels (though I am considering dropping P+ as I don't watch it enough anymore to justify the cost). STIRR is just Charge with I watch OTA.

For my tastes, I like TRC. I have a lot of TV shows and movies in my personal collection but TRC is nice to turn on as background noise when I do housework. I stay pretty busy these days so not a lot of downtime for TV. I have been working on getting my amateur radio station back together and working on other radio-related projects. I have also been experimenting with radio-related subjects with my local SKYWARN* group which has been qute fun for me.

I think that talk radio is like the local TV morning news programs in that
both are heavy with commercials. I have always suspected that our local TV stations increased the hours they have news on for the specific purpose of selling more commercial time vs. what they could sell with syndicated old
TV shows.

The FM rock and roll stations in this area seemed to start following suit several years before streaming became big. Seemed to happen right before sattelite radios became standard in vehicles.

My new car has 3 months of SiriusXM included. My new favorite is
"Dangerous Darren" on Hair Nation. Winger!
