Yeah I can understand that. I will be doing some testing on the machines at my work mostly to see how well things work.

Its nice to see Microsoft ripping things off again, this time its the look of Mac-OS...

Maybe that's all Microsoft knows.. Maybe we should feel bad for them because they grew up only knowing this one way of being. /S

Hopefully Windows 11 shows some sort of reason to be useful. I was running it from its earliest public dev builds.. But once it was released I just reinstalled Linux as usual. Will keep my eyes on it though.

Microsoft doesn't believe in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Even though they don't support anything prior to Windows 8 (if not 10) right now, many folks are still using XP.

Vista really wasn't that bad.. I think the only people that hated it didn't have good enough machines to run it.. Which sucks.. but that doesn't exactly make an OS bad.. Windows Me was bad because it was unstable.. not because it was slow.. so cant put Vista on the same level as Windows Me. :) Even though I actually kinda liked Windows Me when it came out as well.. So I guess I was just lucky then? :)

As for playing older games I can do that fairly well on my newer system as I run Linux and most older titles run perfectly fine under Wine. But my Windows 98se box is great for that as well. But I also do more useful things on that box as well.. since it has a browser that works and the version of mIRC and putty I have on it works great as well.. so I can do my IRC and other stuff that I do just fine on 98se. (and yes SSL is functional in the one web browser and mIRC.)

I used 3.11, 95, 98, 98SE, XP, 7, and now 10. I just can't see upgrading
to Windows 11.

My first exposure to Windows Vista was when I bought a new computer to replace my old, clumsy one
which had suffered a hardware death running XP.

Vista is a serial rapists of RAMs. Besides, it did away with some features from the XP days which
were needed for some of the stuff I wanted to run. They killed their own docummentation program and
you could not even install Diablo I on it. Basically Vista offered you less functionality while
eating more computer resources.

It got me so pissed off that I switched to Linux right there.

WSL2 looks to have support for Linux GUI apps out of the box, that seems pretty nice.

Why Microsoft seems to want to emulate Apple is beyond me. Just wait for the next Windows upgrade. They will change the wallpaper and call it Windows 12.

I think that Windows will eventually become a UI on top of the Linux kernel.

M$ is no longer making money from Windows so I can see it slip further down
the list in priorities.

It is funny you mention that.

On laptops I use a Window manager that has no taskbar at all. You invoke windows via shortcuts. But then, when you use a tiling window manager you usually don have to hunt around trying to find out where your window is.

I use stacking window managers on workstations, but I am considering switching to a taskbarless setup for those too.
