• Medicare Plan for 2025

From Mike Dippel@999:1/1 to All on Friday, November 15, 2024 20:19:56
My wife and I met with a Medicare health specialist today. We had a list of our medications
for her to review. My wife will stay on the WellCare prescription drug plan which is $0 out
    of pocket per month.

I am switching over to United Health Care drug plan. There is a deduction taken out of my
Social Security every month, but overall it is a better plan for me.

I will no longer have to purchase drugs from Canada. It will be cheaper to buy them
locally and the delivery is so much quicker. I never know where the drugs will be shipped
from with the Canadian med plan. Some come from as far away as New Zealand.

It's Medicare renewal time. Anyone else have any input?

I've never thought about it. My drugs come from the corner drug store here in town, or from Steve down on the corner. :-)

I signed up for Blue Cross a year or so ago and have been accepted. It covers way more than drugs, like dental and eye glasses. Because I had cancer treatments a couple years ago, I had to wait a while (and not get sick) to be accepted, Things are better now.

Many years ago, I was told that America was going to have nationalized health care
similar to Canada, France, etc. It hasn't happened, and I can only hope that things
don't get worse under our incoming regime.

RFK Jr. seems very healthy and fit and maybe is going to be a good choice to run our
health care. I pray that is the case.

How would you compare Canada to the U.S. from what you know?

I don't really know much about the American health system. I was always told that if you got sick in the States, you would go bankrupt. Millions of Canadians are without a family doctor now. Our public hospitals are always over-filled with jammed emergency rooms. Like you guys, we have taken in millions of sick and damaged people from war-torn countries and our medical system where everthing is free, is terribly broken. 9 years ago I had a triple-bypass done and I was treated like royalty by the best doctors and it didn't cost me a dime. Today it's a totally different story.

I do have a supplement plan which I pay for that covers any medical procedure at no
cost, and I have had a lot of procedures! I was lucky when I retired to have a
representative from the City propose different plans to us. The one I picked has been a
    godsend.

That was 9 years ago. It was a while before I could walk more than a block but I had a great surgeon and was back up on stage singing in no time. My bout with cancer a couple years ago was a different story. After 2 months of feeding from a stomach tube and permanent dry mouth, it's more of a challenge. If I take it easy, I'm good for a couple hours, but it's getting better ever so slowly. Still alive though. For 70 yo I can't complain (too much) :-)

I'm 75 with a history of multiple problems, but I feel blessed to still be alive and kicking.
I'm sure you feel the same. We are blessed.
